The Avondale Arts Alliance, on behalf of the City of Avondale Estates, invites artists and artist teams to submit proposals for the Avondale Estates cow.
The Cows Are Coming is a countywide public art initiative launched by DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, in which 13 fiberglass life-sized cows will be painted to celebrate DeKalb’s history and creative spirit, then installed in each of the 12 cities in DeKalb plus one for the entire county.
This is the first major project put forth by the newly reformed DeKalb Arts Council, whose mission is to support and promote the arts in DeKalb County through funding and opportunities to artists. The cows are a nod to DeKalb's historical uses as farmland and its reputation as being the former "Dairy Capital of Georgia."
Pro-tip: Review the documents pertaining to the city's 100 year history as dairy farmland for inspiration, and incorporation of the centennial logo is highly encouraged!
In November and December artwork will feature florals and our furry friends.
Call opens September 28th
